It is amazing that Christians have no idea or very little knowledge at the best about the Cross. It is true that the Romans crucified criminals but there is no record of any Miracle Man being crucified as is told in the gospels. The story appears to have been added centuries later by someone reading about the crucifixion of Antigonus in 37BCE. The Romans documented everything methodically and this is the only crucifixion that can be found of a religious leader during that period.
In any case there is no mention of a Cross being used in the Septuagint which is the source of the New Testament. The word used there is 'Stauros' and whilst this has come to mean a Cross in Modern Greek solely to satisfy the religious, in Ancient Greek it could only mean 'A STAKE' - that is, a Straight upright Pole.
Even Theologians doubt the crucifixion story as we can see from this page - www.devotedservants.com/cross.htm by the Reverend Michael T Welhous.
The idea of a Cross comes like almost everything else in the whole Bible from Ancient Egypt, and it was not a Cross of Death, but the Ankh - THE CROSS OF LIFE.
In the earliest religious belief it was LIFE that was honoured, NOT DEATH.
