This was posted by Peter in "Where's Jesus" in 2009.
It isn't often spotted as an Errancy and yet it has to be unless Jesus's god was JUPITER.
In the Gospels Jesus states, much to the offence of the Jews present, that a Roman centurion had greater faith than anyone in Israel with these words:
NASB Matt 8:10 "Now when Jesus heard {this,} He marveled and said to those who were following, "Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith with anyone in Israel."
So let us look at what was invovled to be a Roman Centurian. All Roman soldiers had to takean oath called the Sacramentum (the Christian word sacrament comes from this word). This oath was first taken when a man became a legionaire and every New Year afterwards until Vespasian changed it to January 3rd.
This is the approximate wording of the oath: In the name of Juppiter Optimus Maximus and Mars and by the majesty of Emperor Caesar Augustus Pontifex Maximus, I say this oath, not to retreat or desert from the army before the completion of my service and each and everyone, obey orders and follow the standards.
There was no religion freedom in the Roman Army, a soldier could have his personal gods but he had to take an oath to Jupiter and Mars and the emperor.
So what was Jesus doing publically saying a man who took oaths to Jupiter has greater faith than anyone in Israel. Christian tradition says that the early Christians refused to take oaths to the Roman Gods, yet this man did and Jesus praised him. Maybe Jesus deep down was a polytheist.
